Table of Contents
Only simple ingredients that you surely have at hand in your pantry.
All purpose wheat flour is what I use. You can use bread flour or even pizza flour.
INSTANT DRY YEAST
I love using this version of yeast as it’s so easy and fuss-free. You just mix it with flour and that’s it. No preparation, no waiting for the yeast activation.
SUBSTITUTE: ACTIVE DRY YEAST
You can also use active dry yeast, but there will be a slight difference in preparation, as they need to be rehydrated. That means you will have to put them in the warm water together with sugar and mix. After 5 minutes they should activate and foam.
Sugar is important in bread recipes, as it helps the yeast do their work. You can substitute it with maple syrup or agave syrup, but don’t skip it altogether.
Even a small addition of salt elevates the taste of bread, so don’t omit it. I once did and the bread turned out ok, but rather bland.
Use lukewarm or warm filtered water, again to help the yeast raise the dough.
If you can’t keep your finger in the water for 15 seconds it’s way too hot.

How To Make 5 Ingredient White Bread
The process is very simple, no first rise, no kneading, no shaping. Just mix all ingredients, wait for the dough to rise and bake!
MIX DRY INGREDIENTS
It’s as easy as it sounds.
Just put the flour in a large mixing bowl. Add other dry ingredients and whisk until combined.
MIX THE DOUGH
Add the lukewarm water, but not all at once. Add half and start mixing with a wooden spoon, add some more, mix in. Continue until you have uniform thick dough without dry flour.
TIP: it’s not like the typical bread dough that you knead. It will be more sticky and more wet. Similar to very thick cake dough.
Place the dough in a loaf pan lined with parchment paper. You can also use a round form or Dutch oven.
Place the pan in a warm place for the bread to rise. It should at least double, if not triple its size before baking. Rise time may differ a little depending on the ambient temperature. For me it usually takes 1-1.5 hours.
TIP: If it’s cold in your kitchen, turn your oven on at 50°C / 120°F for a few minutes. Turn it off and place the pan inside for rising.
Preheat the oven to 180°C / 355°F.
Bake for 40-45 minutes. Each oven is different, that’s why it’s best to check it at the 40 minute mark. Poke it with a toothpick, if it comes out clean the bread is ready.
After it cools down on a wire rack you can enjoy a slice of your perfect white bread.
TIP: For an extra crunchy skin, take the bread out of the pan carefully and place it back in a turned off oven. Leave the oven door open a little, keep it there for 5-10 minutes.
Wait till it cools down to room temperature before slicing.
Tips To Always Bake A Great Homemade Bread Loaf
Use Fresh Yeast
It’s tempting to buy a big packet to keep in your pantry, but it’s not the best idea, unless you really use a lot of yeast. You will not be able to know that your yeast are expired until you try them out in the recipe. Buy small packets, best are single use that hold 7-8g yeast.
Questions & Answers
How To Store The Bread?
After it is cooled down completely, place it in a plastic bag and wrap tightly. You can also wrap it in a kitchen towel and place it in an airtight container. Store it for 3-4 days. If you want to store it longer, place it in the fridge.
Can I Freeze It?
You can freeze the whole loaf or slice it and freeze a few slices in plastic wrap or zip bags.
What Else Can I Add To White Bread?
This is a basic recipe, but you can always improve it with some yummy additions:
- ½ cup raisins or cranberries, or mix of both for a sweet twist
- Chia Seeds mixed into the dough to raise protein, fiber and vitamins profile
- Sprinkle top with pumpkin seeds, poppy seeds or sunflower seeds
Can I Use Whole Wheat Flour?
Yes, you can, but I don’t recommend substituting all of it. Half and half will be ok, but you may need to add a few more tablespoons of water. Whole wheat flour requires more water than white flour.

Can I Prepare It In A Stand Mixer?
Yes, no problem, although it is not necessary. All you need is a large bowl and a spoon.
Place all dry ingredients in a bowl of a stand mixer and whisk them. Add water and use a dough hook attachment to mix the dough on a medium speed. Note that it will not come out as a one uniform dough ball, as it’s much more wet than the bread dough that you normally knead.
