Ingredients And Swaps

You just need few healthy and easy to find ingredients and you can enjoy this nutritious breakfast every morning.

OATS

Rolled oats, quick or instant oats will all work great in this recipe, I do not recommend using steel cut oats (Irish oats) if you want this creamy, cakey texture. Here’s more information about types of oats.

BANANA

Very ripe banana is the best for baked oats. It is sweet, easy to blend and provides this lovely creamy texture. If you don’t have banana you can try replacing it with 1/3 cup applesauce.

ALMOND MILK

Any plant based milk will do – my favorite is almond, soy vanilla and hazelnut.

PEANUT BUTTER

Crunchy or creamy peanut butter will all be great. I like adding almond butter for a change.

RAISING AGENT

Baking powder or baking soda will make the oats rise a little providing fluffier and lighter texture.

VANILLA EXTRACT

Tiny bit of vanilla extract makes the taste really dessert like. If you added almond butter, how about adding almond extract instead of vanilla? You will get amaretto oats, yum.

CHOCOLATE CHIPS (optional)

You can use chocolate chips, chocolate chunks or do what I did – chop a small (or bigger) piece of your favorite chocolate bar.

Not a fan of chocolate? Add fresh fruit (I added chopped apple in one version), frozen fruit or chopped nuts.

MAPLE SYRUP (optional)

If you want your air fryer baked oats to be more of a dessert than a breakfast add some maple or agave syrup.

How to make Air Fryer Baked Oats with Banana and Peanut Butter

GRIND OATS

Grind oats in a high speed blender. You can also use oat flour if you have it. I grind half or the oats and leave the rest for a bit more texture. You can grind all of the oats for creamier result or completely skip this step for a firmer version.

BLEND OTHER INGREDIENTS

Blend banana, peanut butter, almond milk, baking powder and vanilla extract. You can just add them to previously blended oats, or blend them separately.

Expert tips

This recipe is very easy and forgiving, but here are some ideas how to improve it further.

LINE THE RAMEKINS

If you would like to take your baked oats out of the ramekins and cover them with ice cream, or fresh fruit, or more peanut butter you can do so by lining the ramekins with baking sheets. Less cleaning too!

USE OAT FLOUR

If you have oat flour at hand you can skip the first step and prepare your air fryer oatmeal even faster. Just blend other ingredients and add oat flour to them later.

How to serve Air Fryer Baked Oatmeal

Wait for the ramekins to cool down a little and serve baked oats warm for the most creamy texture and a lot of flavor.

You can serve air fryer oatmeal cold as well. I even like it straight from the fridge. The texture is a little tougher, but it still tastes good.

Add your favorite toppings just like you would do with the regular oatmeal.

Topping ideas

  • fresh strawberries
  • berries: blueberry, raspberry, blackberry
  • tropical: chopped banana and pineapple plush shredded coconut
  • plant based yoghurt
